Today, we introduce our journey that led to the best-scented candles made of soy wax. Have you ever experienced a scented candle with a fabulous fragrance in the jar then once it was lit it was quite the opposite? Instead, you had to hover over the candle to smell the scent with it burning your nose slightly. Well, you are not the only one.
When we set out to make a soy wax scented candle that was equally fragrant when lit and unlit we had no idea of the journey we were going to encounter.
When we started the journey soy wax had recently been invented for candle use specifically, so this meant the availability of soy candles market was close to nothing. Most candle companies were making fragrances with paraffin wax and we were not satisfied with this ingredient as petroleum oil is a by-product of paraffin wax.
Most of the fragrances on the market were made from one hundred percent synthetics and this went against Amassuna’s values. It was important to us to create scented candles using pure essential oils or natural extracts however these ingredients were either unstable at high temperatures, did not burn to a high standard, or had a weak scent. Also, soy wax burns 20 degrees cooler than paraffin wax and this means it is much more difficult to force fragrance into the air. Therefore, we had a few issues we had to resolve if we wished to have a candle that was completely natural, extremely fragrant and a high-quality burn.
Due to these issues, most candle companies will use a blend of paraffin and soy and they are legally allowed to call it a soy candle. This blend enables the wax to burn at a higher temperature and enhances the scent-throw compared to 100% soy wax; however, we did not want to use any paraffin/petroleum wax.
In our frustration, we began thinking “outside the box” from the standard way of making candles. We knew we had to figure out a way to get our scented soy candles to absorb more fragrance than the best-scented candles on the market. We needed to exceed the industry’s standard “scent load capacity.” We then had to make sure our fragrance was equally distributed throughout our candles and accomplish all of this while making our fragrances healthier.
We transformed our basement into a mini candle/science laboratory and began our journey. What followed was a result of a husband-and-wife team, with a passion for healthy living, seeking a solution to this scented candle dilemma. Amassuna’s innovative
